Netscape, the first commercial Internet browser and launch pad for further developments of the World Wide Web, will disappear definitively on the first of February after 13 years of existence.
Its current owner, America Online, a division of the firm Time Warner, decided to discontinue the development and technical support for the Netscape platform to concentrate on growing as an advertising business enterprise.
The popularity of Netscape went down after the market entry of Microsoft's Internet Explorer, and then, almost virtually disappeared due to the popularity of Firefox, the flexible free access browser .
